Riding for the Disabled - Winton Group

2008

Musical Ride Video takes second at Nationals two years on the TROT!

This year the children took the stage for a medieval extravaganza with “Eglinton Tournament meets Excalibur”, coached and choreographed by the now famous Gillian Beattie from Fergushill Riding Stables.

The group came second in the local, live competition held at Ayr Equestrian centre this summer, up a place on last year, and second once again in the National video competition.

All the magnificent costumes for both horses and riders were made by Gillian.

This is a very popular event very much enjoyed by all involved.

My Favourite Pony

This drawing of Ned is by Caitlyn Fulton, aged 8, who rides with the Winton Group.

Ned is one of the children’s favourites and certainly has a fan in Caitlyn, could you draw your favourite pony? Why not have a go and send it in to us, we will print one in every edition of the newsletter plus we will show them on the website.

Derek Cooper selected for Special Olympics Scotland West team 2009

Derek Cooper Silver medallist in the 2007 Special Olympics held in Shanghai; has been selected for the Scotland West Equestrian Team for 2009. Derek was Special Olympics National Champion in 2005 and the RDA Regional champion in 2007.

Derek joined the team of Winton Group helpers in 2008 and is enjoying passing on his knowledge and experiences to the children who attend the group sessions currently.

Derek is seen here at a recent Winton Group fund raising event with the Provost of East Ayrshire Mrs Stephanie Young.

Charity Clay Shoot - a great success

A major charity clay shoot was held at “Cowans Law” country sports facility by kind permission of Jay Steel and Leslie Hair in August, the event raised in excess of £4,000 for the RDA Winton Group.

The weather was very kind to us on the day which was enjoyed by the shooters and families alike. We would like to thank all of the sponsors, those who donated gifts for the auction, all the teams that took part and all of the helpers involved on the day for their invaluable help.

The success of the day was largely down to the energy and enthusiasm of the shooting and equestrian community who turned out in force to support the RDA cause, a good day was had by all.

The day was a tribute to all involved a big to all involved
